Description
Cap: 6-12cm purplish brown, smooth and shiny. Initially convex with a strongly in-turned margin. Later becoming depressed with a wavy edge.
Gills: Adnex or slightly sinuate, bright violet, crowded.
Stem: Violet, solid, with a bulbous base.
Spores: Pale pink
Flesh: Pale lilac, usually darker in the stem than the cap.
Habitat: On the ground in mixed woodland, sometimes also in compost heaps.
