Description
Cap: 10-20cm red with white warty scales. Convexed at first later flat.
Gills: White, gills are seen to curve up and join the cap. They do not join onto the stem at all." class="glossary_link" href="/mushrooms/glossary#free">free, crowded and broad.
Stem: White with a large hanging ring and bulbous base.
Spores: White
Flesh: White and firm
Habitat: In groups on the ground. Associated with particularly with birch but also found with other trees (both broad leaf and connifers).
Frequency: Very Common
